If it were up to me all indoor spaces would be required to have working HVAC systems. I think that we have become so dependent on our cooling technology that it makes it extremely difficult to function without a proper A/C. There are parts of my office that are not air condition, and I think it is beyond unreasonable to expect employees to work in those spaces. I have to have a climate-controlled area to focus. I don’t think this is much to ask because in modern society, A/Cs are nearly standard everywhere. I think there are a couple of regions around the country where people are able to get by without an air conditioner. I know that they are not in all houses and buildings in the Pacific Northwest, but most other regions in the country have to have HVAC units. I live in the south, and it is entirely too hot here to function without the ability to adjust the temperature inside of a space. I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or bad thing that we have become dependent on climate control technology, but it is just the state of things right now. I think that it is unreasonable to expect anyone to get by during the warmest and coldest months without a proper way to adjust the temperature. In a perfect world, everyone would have an efficient heating and cooling system and they would be as efficient as possible. Maybe we will eventually have technology that is so efficient that we will be able to use our A/Cs whenever we want without worrying about our utility bills.
