I grew up following my dad’s footsteps Anything he did, I made a point to do too. For instance, he loved eating pizza, so I ate pizza with him. He loved taking bike rides, so I’d joined him. He loved the summer time, so I grew up to love the summertime too. When it came time for college, I applied for pharmaceutical school, just like my dad. He had worked at our downtown pharmacy for as long as I could remember. To be honest, I never thought about what I truly wanted before entering college. I’d spent my whole life following my dad’s footprints. When I talked to him about following in his footsteps, he would light up and I could tell that he was proud of me. I started school and I did well in all my classes. I graduated at the top of my class and landed a job at the same pharmacy as my dad. However, after working in that business for several years, I found myself dreading work. I hated going in every single day and doing the exact same thing. I told a good friend about this, and he recommended that I come shadow him at work. He worked as a HVAC technician in town. After one day with him, I fell in love! I loved how each day was different, and there were several paths I could take. I could do house calls, make HVAC repairs, or just sell HVAC equipment. I also loved how the hours were more flexible as a HVAC professional. My dad could tell how happy I was when working within the HVAC industry, and he was proud.
